Tyra Banks

From what i have learned so far, media and advertisements seem to make up the majority of popular culture. Everywhere we look there is something trying to change our views and persuade our opinions. Everyone is motivated by money. However, there are a few new movements towards the greater good. My favorite example is Tyra Banks. She seems to have her heart set on helping people, especially women, to find happiness and peace in their lives. She is also very set on helping girls to not let media affect their self esteem or influence their decisions.
Another thing that she has shown is how persuasion in media can be used in good and bad ways. On her show America's Next Top Model she does a photo shoot that shows how something like smoking can be pushed to both extremes, displaying how it can be perceived as something glamorous or as something deadly. I think these pictures are a good example of why a picture or an advertisement, no matter how persuasive, should hold no value and not affect our decisions. People's own judgments should have the ultimate effect on their lives. There is good and bad in the world and it's up to you to differ between the two.
